We are currently looking for a full-time Planner to join us on a permanent basis to work primarily on waste and minerals issues.
You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, expected to be in the field of town planning, science, environment or engineering along with eligibility or working towards chartered status with a relevant organisation (eg MRTPI or IEMA).
Working closely with the GMCA planning team, the Waste Disposal Authority and the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit you will provide specialist technical advice to the ten Greater Manchester local authorities on environmental planning matters including minerals, aggregates, waste and the circular economy such as:
1. Advise on the impact of planning applications and Local Plans.
2. Co-ordination and development of a consistent regional policy approach to Waste Planning, including co-ordination, monitoring, reporting and review of the Greater Manchester Joint Waste Local Plan, Local Aggregate Assessment and associated working party.
3. Assist in commission and management of consultancy services for the local authorities. Provide technical advice, quality assurance and review of consultancy outputs to the client and/or contractor.
4. Assist the local authorities in complying with minerals and waste legislation and duties through the provision of user-friendly information, advice and by finding solutions to resolve issues.
5. Provide technical support and deputise for other GMCA officers at events and meetings as required and where relevant to the role.
