Covid 19 - Latest official waste-related advice and guidance

Yesterday, 21st May, Nicola Sturgeon announced that on 28th May Scotland would progress to phase one of the route map taking Scotland through and out of the Coronavirus Crisis.  For waste and recycling that means that HWRCs will begin to re-open from 28th May, with many planning to re-open on 1st June.  Link to the Scotland Routemap.

15th May NB:  Defra issued Updated Guidance: Managing HWRCs in England during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic - with Guidance to help LAs make decision on opening HWRCs and suggested messages to residents (also on our Defra page below)

19th May - Defra has published social media content on the disposal of PPE from non-healthcare settings. The content includes a video to highlight the correct disposal of PPE for members of the public, including the key message to dispose of PPE in black-bag waste and not to recycle it.

16th May - Welsh Government issue guidance to the public on taking waste to HWRCs - Also on our Welsh Govt page below

15th May - WISH issued version 5 of the Guidance on Waste Management Activities, section three addresses information on a gradual return to work in England, such as risk assessment, face coverings, and returning to work for the vulnerable.  

This follows guidance from Defra on re-opening services such as HWRCs (see new legislation for England) and gradually getting back to work in general whilst 'staying alert'.  On 11th May the Government issued 8 guidance documents on Working Safely during Coronavirus.  Of the 8 documents, those with reference  to waste and recycling are:  Construction and other Outdoor Work, Offices and Contact Centres, and Vehicles.  Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are currently asking their residents to follow the 'Stay Home' strategy and Natural Resources Wales have issued a Regulatory Decision on Manager Competence regarding the pandemic
