Food Waste Action Week

This week, WRAP is running our third annual Food Waste Action Week focusing on food waste prevention. The theme is ‘Win. Don’t Bin’ and we will be encouraging citizen to make the most of the food they buy – saving them time and money. It would be great if you could support the campaign by liking and sharing content across your social media platforms.
Through our insights and analysis, we estimate that 1.1 million tonnes of good food that could have been eaten goes to waste from UK homes, because too much is prepared, cooked, or served, costing UK householders £3.5 billion a year.
Last year’s campaign reached over eight million people in the UK, with a massive 55% of them saying they did something about food waste as a result. This year, we want to have an even bigger impact!
Our campaign is aiming to help citizens make their food go further by promoting simple behaviours people can do around storing, freezing, defrosting, and reheating their food, highlighting all the wonderful things they could be doing with the time they’ve saved from using up leftovers.
Throughout the week, we’ll be using eye-catching graphics, social media posts and PR activity in our ‘Win. Don’t Bin’ campaign, to inspire people with ways to make their food and time go further.
Food Waste Collections
Are you food waste ready? Webinar 16 March 2023

We understand that many of you are considering how to implement separate food waste collections. On 16 March we will be hosting our ‘Are you food waste ready?’ webinar where we will be able to share our technical guidance and communications resources to help with the planning and delivery of food waste collections.
There will also be an opportunity to hear from Bracknell Forest and St Helens Local Authority teams about their experience, and to find out how WRAP supported Warwick and Stratford District Councils in communicating their services, introduced last summer. To sign up for the webinar click here.
Technical Support Available for 23/24

This year, the Local Authority Support Team have supported authorities across the country to benchmark their existing services and review their collection policies; to assess the options for the implementation of new services, with many looking at the most effective way that they can introduce food waste collections, and to successfully communicate service changes.
We appreciate that many of you are waiting for further guidance from Defra before making decisions with regards the future of waste and recycling, however if you’d be interested in discussing how WRAP may be able to support you over the next few months we would be keen to hear from you.
