Waste collection authorities and unitary authorities in England have recently received from WRAP a survey to gauge preparations for Simpler Recycling.

The Government has confirmed its commitment to delivering the Collection and Packaging Reforms to the announced timelines, including Simpler Recycling, subject to spending review outcomes. The requirements relating to Simpler Recycling in the Environmental Protection Act 1990, amended through the Environment Act 2021, are now in force. This means the implementation dates and the requirements of Simpler Recycling are now set in legislation and will come into effect as per timelines announced in October 2023.

WRAP, working on behalf of Defra, have created a survey to gauge your preparations for potential service changes as a result of Simpler Recycling: Local Authority Simpler Recycling Timelines Survey.

Why get involved?

  • Your feedback will help to convey the readiness of the sector to implement the requirements to Government.
  • It will also help to gauge mobilisation timescales and identify where potential further support is needed.
  • WRAP is working across supply chains to help alleviate bottlenecks and your survey data will be used in conjunction with other information and insights to build a clearer picture of readiness and opportunities to support the sector moving forward.

Data obtained will be securely stored with restricted access and treated as confidential. WRAP will provide a summary of feedback for participating LAs in due course.

The survey should take up to 30 minutes to complete. A PDF copy of the questions, should you need to share with colleagues prior to submission online, can be provided if requested. Respondents are kindly requested to complete the survey by Friday 29th November 2024.

We realise that you are subject to many requests for information. However, we cannot overstate the importance of Local Authorities communicating their current position to Government so that guidance and support can be developed accordingly. We appreciate that the survey is comprehensive but questions and responses have been designed to be as logical and easy to complete as possible.

The survey has been sent to every waste collection authority and unitary authority in England. Please share this with colleagues if they are best placed to complete. If you have any queries please contact WRAP on: LA-Recycling@wrap.ngo

Thank you for your support.
