Whilst councils continue to wait for clarity on waste policy and future funding, we appreciate that many of you are feeling stuck in limbo, frustrated by the inability to make key decisions on the future of your waste and recycling services.
There is however lots you can be considering and evaluating in readiness, and we are more than happy to help you. If you are interested in discussing how WRAP could support you over the next few months, please do get in touch.
Did you know that last year we:
- Engaged with 4 out of 5 LAs across England and Northern Ireland.
- Delivered 25 local authority technical support projects across England and Northern Ireland that involved almost 70 local authorities.
- Provided support webinars with almost 40% of English local authorities and more than 60% of Northern Irish local authorities attending one or more.
One local authority that has benefited from our technical support is North East Lincolnshire Council. We supported officers to develop a business case to move to alternate weekly residual collections, undertook modelling work leading to changes to their dry recycling service and helped them introduce a pilot food waste collection service. These changes resulted in an 18% reduction in residual waste, alongside a 50% increase in dry recycling. Average yields of food waste from the pilot collection have exceeded 1.7 kg/hh/wk resulting in further reductions in residual waste.
