Approximately £46k is available to support research projects from the fees that were collected through the 2015 Compliance Fee mechanism (£27k), along with some carry over from the 2014 Fee (£19k).
Any party can suggest research ideas. The winning idea must be a strategic WEEE research project that would have UK-wide benefit and support one or more of the following aims:
Support the WEEE Directive requirement on Member States to achieve a 65% collection rate by 2019
Encourage the increased reuse of whole appliances
Increase recycling rates of collected equipment
Other projects that support the strategic aims of the WEEE Directive
A panel, chaired by Defra, with participants of the WEEE stakeholder community will assess the project outlines and select the winning idea. Researchers will then be encouraged to bid to carry out the work. The process will be managed by the Administrator, Mazars.
The project(s) will be supported by funds made available from the 2015 WEEE Compliance Fee income, along with some carry over from the 2014 fund, of £46k.
Closing date is 19th September - so time is of the essence.
If you would like to discuss your project before you submit your proposal or have any queries please email WEEEcompliancefee@mazars.co.uk
