It's a few weeks now since LARAC's Sally Talbot organised the sunset walk up Snowdon to raise money for WasteAidUK. Since then the feet and calves of those who took part in the walk have healed and Sally has walked right on into to the private sector, and we wish her well.
The walk wasn't quite as balmy as might have been hoped for, despite starting out in sunshine walkers reached the summit in mist as you can see (spirits undaunted) below - but on the way down the sun worked hard to break through and certainly tried to shine kindly on the backs of those intrepid fundraisers - we can see the view from Andrew's back - and yes that is the wheelie bin!
Andrew Jenkins, the current LARAC Recycling Champion and and Recycling Officer at Cherwell District and South Northants Councils, who did the whole thing with a wheelie bin full of recycling on his back said afterwards: "Raising money for Waste Aid UK has been fun, and it’s brilliant to know that however much you raise, it will change people’s lives. I work in waste everyday and understand the impact WasteAid UK has in developing countries, so I just had to take part in the Snowdon walk. I wanted to do a little bit more, so I thought carrying a wheelie bin up Snowdon would be tough and a good fit for a charity working in waste management. It was hard work, and my legs haven’t forgiven me yet, but it was brilliant getting to the top knowing we had all raised thousands for WasteAid UK. Getting to the bottom was pretty good too. I know that the money raised will be well spent and make a real difference."
So, what was the outcome apart from good fun and sore feet? After coming down from the mountain Sally felt that: “Climbing Mount Snowdon for WasteAid UK was a brilliant experience enjoyed by everyone who took part. It was a great opportunity to get so many people together for WasteAid UK and shows what can be achieved when we work together.” The immediate figure for fuindraising was £6, 400, which is quite an achievement for a night's work. At the moment the figure stands at £7,400 we will keep you updated as this figure inevitably rises. Thank you and well done to all those who took part.
