UK manufacturer of environmental products Storm Environmental is proud to have been recognised at the recent MRW National Recycling Awards, winning the award for Innovation in Recycling Equipment and Vehicle Design.
The award-winning project, ‘Smart Housing and On-The-Go Recycling Infrastructure’, was delivered in partnership with Westminster City Council and Veolia UK. By introducing Storm’s innovative four-wheeled bin housing PODs (Place of Disposal) across housing estates and four-way litter and recycling PODs on busy streets, the project has transformed public spaces, helping to create cleaner environments and encourage higher levels of recycling participation.
Held at the Hilton London Metropole, the MRW National Recycling Awards is the largest awards ceremony for the UK recycling and resource management sector. This accolade celebrates Storm’s commitment to continue developing solutions that improve recycling and waste management for communities across the UK. It also highlights the value of clear communication, strong design and collaboration in delivering modern waste solutions.
What PODs are and why they matter
Storm’s four-wheeled bin housing PODs are purpose designed to improve waste and recycling in high density residential settings. Engineered from all steel construction, they are fire resistant, durable and secure, providing a safe and efficient solution for flats, terraces and high occupancy properties. Clear signage, user friendly apertures, and a considered design help PODs integrate seamlessly into community spaces, encouraging recycling participation while reducing litter and anti-social behaviour.
Alongside the residential PODs, Storm’s four-way litter and recycling POD is designed specifically for busy streets and public spaces. Part of Storm’s wider street furniture range, these units provide a practical and attractive solution for managing multiple waste streams in high footfall environments. By combining litter and recycling in a single, clearly signposted unit, the four-way POD helps reduce contamination while making responsible disposal easier for the public.
The PODs have made an enormous contribution to the City of Westminster’s improved recycling rates, and Storm is delighted to be recognised at the MRW National Recycling Awards for playing its part with its recent innovations.
