Steel-bodied, four-wheeled bins have a long service life, with many having a proven operating life of over 25 years. However, with more than 1.5 million now in use throughout the UK, inevitably some will need to be repaired or refurbished after many years of hard life.
Following its recent move to a new production facility in Worcestershire, Storm Environmental, the largest manufacturer of new steel-bodied bins by numbers sold in the UK per annum, has decided to open a stand-alone 50,000ft2 repair and refurbishment plant for manufacturing steel-bodied waste and recycling bins. The new facility will provide a range of aftersales services for Storm customers, including the refurbishment of Storm and non-Storm manufactured containers.
To differentiate the two operations, the name Storm Plus has been adopted for the repair shop, with the distinctive white cross logo featuring in the symbol, which is often seen to advertise medical aid in the UK and Europe.
All bins will be checked on arrival and if any straightening is required, it will be carried out onsite. Bins will then be processed through the computer-controlled conveyor washing, drying, painting, and finishing line. This is the first of its type in Europe, and takes the finishing of bins to an improved level of quality and efficiency.
The plant is designed to be highly environmentally efficient, with bin washing water being filtered and reused, while the paint plant has water curtain recovery and underfloor collection, so no emissions are released into the atmosphere.
After being painted in the customer’s preferred RAL colour, the bins are fitted with new castors, lids, and customer-specified information logos.

Upon receiving instructions, bin pickup from the customer’s depot is typically completed within seven days, thanks to Storm’s large fleet of eight specially designed double-deck transporters. The bins are then processed through the facility and usually returned to the customer within another seven days.
Storm Plus is backed by a customer service team of four, who can all give advice and help via the telephone at 01562 777100 or by email at help@stormenviro.co.uk.
Examples of the high-quality standards Storm achieves can be viewed at the RWM Exhibition on 11-12th September at the NEC in Birmingham. You can visit the company at Stand CT-G200 in Hall 17.
