A Route Map has been developed by a working group comprising members of the local authority waste networks, coordinated through the Waste Network Chairs (WNC), the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB), and WRAP. It is available to help individual local authorities assess their compliance with the Regulations.

The Route Map is a support tool to help local authorities to assess their compliance with the regulations. Critical aspects of the Regulations come into force from 1 January 2015 and local authorities will need to have evaluated their individual compliance before this date. The document is not guidance but it addresses the key questions that local authorities will need to consider.

The Route Map is being hosted on WRAP’s website and is available to access and download now: www.wrap.org.uk/content/understanding-requirements-waste-regulations-2011-amended-2012

We also have it on the Useful Information page of the Members' Area of this website.

It is worth noting that the document is not guidance but it addresses the key questions that local authorities will need to consider.

WRAP has also developed a resource pack which complements the Route Map and contains links to relevant legislation and useful documents.

Andrew Bird, Chair of LARAC is pleased with LARAC's role in helping to develop the route map.  "Our members have been concerned over the implications of the revised waste framework directive following DEFRAs decision not to issue guidance. Development of the routemap is something we have been proud to be a part of and will provide our members in England and Wales a process for effective decision making when planning or adapting their services."
