Duty of Care regulations are changing from January 2014, with Local Authority Waste Services now being required to be registered waste carriers, up to now LAs have been exempt.
LAs need to register for ‘first tier’ waste carrier which is free of charge.
The process is simple and straight forward by logging on to the EA Website - Environment-Agency.gov.uk and following the links through Business & Industry – Waste Carriers, brokers and dealers. - direct link
Guidance is available for the process. Once registered you will receive formal notification of your Waste Carrier Licence and Registration number. Registration lasts indefinitely, with no need to renew, unless there is a change in address for the authority.
