LARAC together with CIWM held its fifth annual Midland event, again kindly hosted by Craemer at their production facility in Telford. Attendance was up again on previous years, which demonstrated the value this free event for delegates has. In a packed. programme for this year we focused on the forthcoming circular economy package, with the keynote presentation by DEFRA, outlining their current work and in particular focusing on the forthcoming Resources and waste strategy, work on Extended Producer Responsibility, as well as Deposit Return Schemes.
Further presentations were given by the Coop on the work they are undertaking on plastics packaging, followed by an insight into reverse vending, and then a look at the global market for recyclable materials, and questioning whether we have the right approach when looked at impending circular economy principles and legal obligations.
