Dave Thomas, East Midlands rep from LARAC, and the exec member with responsibility for all things Recoup, recently attended the Recoup AGM and Annual Conference.
Dave reported that it was a packed event (his report is in the Members' area - so sign in to read it in Meeting Reports) and that there were two notable presentations.
The first was by Stuart Foster, Chief Executive at Recoup. He used the occasion to announce the official launch of the Communications initiative 'Plastic Matters' - this follows the 'Metal Matters' model and will begin with a customer behavioural survey to discover what are the drivers and barriers to recycling plastics. The following goals were announced:
- To develop and launch a national and on-going plastic recycling communications initiative.
- Provide consumer communication support and tools to increase the collection of plastic packaging within local authority areas.
- To achieve a more consistent approach across all UK local authority plastic recycling communications
Along with this Stuart presented the conference the Plastics Recycling Journey 2013 - the cover is illustrated. Take a look at the pdf below to see what Recoup are about, what their aims, what they are involved in and how they are going about it in these challenging times.
Following Stuart's presentation Lord de Mauley, DEFRA Parliamentary Under Secretary for Resource Management, announced £20,000 funding to support the ‘Plastic Matters’ research and campaign. He also took the opportunity to confirm England will follow the devolved governments and introduce a levy on single use carrier bags in 2015.
