Recycle Week is a key week for all local authorities to have an additional push on recycling! This year Recycle Week will run from 12-18 September. The theme is ‘The Unusual Suspects.’
The aim of the week is to encourage consumers to think about all of those items that are often forgotten about when recycling from all around the home, such as:
- Glass cooking sauce jars
- Plastic shampoo bottles
- Deodorant aerosols
- Toilet roll tubes
- Bleach bottles
- Cleaning fluid bottles
- Perfume bottles
The success of the week largely depends on your support as we need your help pushing out the messages that we will be promoting. We have put a new animation guide together which will give you lots of ideas of how you can get involved; whether it’s simply using social media or producing some communications materials for your residents. You can also embed our Recycle Now animation on your website to show residents the recycling journey – these animations are always well received. Even if you have no budget or resource for Recycle Week you can still re-tweet, like and share our posts with your residents as this will really help to spread the word.
This year, Recycle Now has also teamed up with Zero Waste Week (5 – 9 Sept) and Keep Britain Tidy’s Waste less, Live more Week (19 – 25 Sept) to link recycling activities and messages across the whole month.
Look out for Recycle Now’s template materials which will include social media posts, web banners, a template press release and editorial; please help push these messages out as widely as you can. It would be great if we could all help promote Zero Waste Week, Waste less, Live more Week and Recycle Week and make it a whole month of recycling!

We are pleased to announce that a range of new communication materials are available now for you to download and use during Recycle Week, which will run from 12 - 18 September this year. These can be used alongside the current range of 'Good to Know' materials.
Download the template materials now from our Resource Library.
The following materials are available:
- Supporters’ badge, web banners, social media images and empty belly poster.
- A media pack with a press release and an article for you to customise for your own area (suggested social media posts will follow prior to Recycle Week).
- A series of 'Good to Know' recycling around the home templates which have been adapted to include reference to 'The Unusual Suspects'. The templates include posters, pull up banners, web banners, vehicle livery and an A5 double sided flyer.
- Advert fillers in three sizes; full page A4, ½ page and ¼ page. These adverts cannot be customised for your local area and are intended for use by organisations that don’t have the ability or need to make any changes.
Please note that the items listed in bullets 2 – 4 above are available for download but their use is embargoed until the start of Recycle Week. We hope you’ll find these useful and that you’ll be able to support Recycle Week this year!
