Podback’s Executive Director, Rick Hindley, looks ahead to another busy year for the coffee pod recycling service.
“It’s hard to believe that 2023 is only a matter of weeks old! The year has got off to a flying start, and is shaping up to be an exciting one for Podback, with some key milestones imminent as we continue to build the programme. We are also delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of LARAC in 2023.
We welcomed Horsham District Council to Podback in January, and it’s no exaggeration to say that residents have given the new pod recycling service an enthusiastic welcome! Over 600 households signed up in the first week, and three weeks on that number has now passed 2,000.
Horsham is the tenth local authority to add pods to their kerbside service. Residents use the council’s website to book a collection, and the bookable service also includes small WEEE and textiles. The service uses a specially-branded, and very eye catching van, which is doing an excellent job of promoting Podback around the borough!
With Podback now available to over 660,000 households across the UK we are looking forwards to soon passing the million mark, which will happen by the summer.

A key objective of Podback’s founders was to make Podback the sector’s single solution for coffee pod recycling. As a not for profit, funded by its members, Podback is working hard to encourage more coffee pod brands to join and help us towards achieving our mission. Shortly before Christmas, Aldi became the first supermarket to join Podback, meaning their own brand pods can be recycled through the scheme. Today our member brands represent over 80% of the UK coffee market, and positive conversations we are having with other brands mean we will continue to drive that percentage higher.
Several of our upcoming kerbside service launches are the result of conversations which started at a LARAC event – so we look forward to meeting as many members as possible during the year, and to another productive year!”
