Following the recent release of OPRL’s short animation bringing recycling labels to life, continuing collaboration with LARAC has produced posters explaining how local collections match the on-pack labels.

The posters, developed with local authority recycling officers and underpinned by research conducted for Recycle Now, are freely available to councils and OPRL members to help consumers understand how the labels match their own kerbside services – and where they don’t. By understanding and acting correctly on the labels’ advice householders can help local authorities increase recycling and reduce costs.

Jane Bevis, Chair of OPRL said “Coming close on the heels of our recent animation, these posters further cement the closer working between LARAC and OPRL, the basis for LARAC becoming one of our growing band of owners this week.”

“Our labels reflect the services that most councils offer – 90-95 percent for most materials – and these posters give prompts on the types of packaging people often forget to recycle, like loo rolls and aerosols. They’re being made available in English and Welsh for use throughout the UK, via Recycle Now’s resource centre.”

Lee Marshall, Chief Executive of LARAC and OPRL Board member, said “This is the second output of joint work to produce communications resources for local authorities to use. With communications budgets under increasing pressure, making the link with recycling labels used on hundreds of thousands of products is a no brainer. We know 7 in 10 people recognise the labels. Now we just need to build confidence so all of them act on that advice.  The On-Pack Recycling Labels give people the right nudge as they dispose of packaging. Explaining which types of packaging carry which labels – and what you should do – in these adaptable posters reinforces that nudge. We believe this joined up approach to messaging will help councils increase recycling rates, avoid costly landfill taxes and reduce rejection rates."

The UK-wide, award-winning On-Pack Recycling Label scheme is operated by OPRL Ltd. This project has been funded by OPRL Ltd and developed in partnership with WRAP’s local authority support initiative, led by Lee Marshall, OPRL Board member and Chief Executive of LARAC. See the video
