Hilary Garlick, the LARAC Eastern rep, reports from Sustainable Clothing Action Plan – Reuse and Recycling sub-group bi-annual meeting which took place on 2nd March. It was a packed meeting looking at areas such as the SCAP footprint calculator tool, the Love Your Clothes campaign, non-clothing textiles such as towels, curtains etc, The EU Clothing Action Plan, The Textiles Market Report - Consumption of new textiles continues to grow. The last few years saw substantial growth in exports, large price rises and an influx of new entrants into the market. The last couple of areas were: the The Textile Collection procurement guidance - the draft is being finalised and will be available via LARAC OnLine and potentially the LARAC Conference, and finally, they looked at low grade textiles. A couple of weeks later Dave attended the Recoup board meeting on 15th March. The meeting discussed the following: 2015 Plastic Packaging Recycling Performance, Compliance, Targets and DEFRA Consultation on the Proposed Changes to Producer Responsibility Regimes, European Circular Economy Proposals, The ACP, The Plastics Industry Recycle Action Plan (PIRAP), the Carrier Bag Levy in England the the Recoup Conference 2016 - the meeting drew to a close looking at Recoup projects including the latest developments in the Coca Cola Recycle Zone campaign.
