LARAC attended the first ever PRE/PDM event held at the International Centre in Telford on the 18 -19 June 2014. Not something we would normally get involved in but with so many of the plastics industry big players there, this was an opportunity not to be missed. The event gave us the chance showcase LARAC not only at our stand in the main hall over two days but also at the Local Authority free to attend seminar day chaired by Andrew Bird, which focused on the role of LAs in helping industry achieve its 2017 recycling targets.
We gathered a number of speakers and organisations that not only work with Local Authorities on a regular basis and understand our needs but also have a vested interest in ensuring that we can produce a quality input into sorting systems to ensure a circular economy can be achieved. LARAC would like to thank WRAP, M&S, SITA, Closed Loop Recycling, RECOUP, Milton Keynes Council and Cromwell Polypthene for some quality speakers.
Managing to secure a Special address from Barry Gardiner MP, Shadow Environment Minister who had that day also spoken at CIWM gave those who attended an invaluable opportunity to get to sit down and talk on a one to one basis. This turned into more like a constituency surgery than a presentation and gave those attending the chance set out some of issues we LAs face on a daily basis – and gave LARAC one more opportunity to present some LA concerns to the minister.
Dave Thomas's report from the event is also available in the Members' area of the website.
