LARAC at the DEFRA working group looking at the definition of waste

Hilary Garlic represented LARAC members at this first meeting (held on 25th March) organised by DEFRA  to establish a working group looking at how the definition of materials as “waste” can act as a barrier to reuse.  Although legislation cannot be amended, the group agreed that greater clarity, guidance and consistency could be developed to support groups reusing materials.  LARAC is looking forward to the next meeting of the group, which includes regulators, the third sector and local authority representation, in June.
