As many of you will know by now, Hubbub is an environmental charity taking a fresh approach to communicating sustainability to a mainstream audience. We create fun and engaging campaigns, focusing on things people are passionate about such as fashion, food, their homes and neighbourhoods.
After a highly successful pilot last year, #TravellersCheck is back. This time, Hubbub are rolling out the campaign nationally and providing free resources for local authorities and businesses to run the campaign locally.
So what exactly is #TravellersCheck?
In the UK alone we produce 15 million tonnes of food waste annually, of which 7 million tonnes comes from households. The #TravellersCheck campaign sets out to tackle the £ ½ billion worth of food binned each year as people head off on holiday.
#TravellersCheck is an online social media campaign. Timely, fun, targeted content is used to catch holiday-makers before they depart, helping them to save food and money through the freezing and sharing of food.
What are the overall aims for #TravellersCheck?
- Reduce food waste through the normalisation of sharing food with neighbours
- Reduce food waste through freezer education
- Increase spirit of sharing in communities between neighbours
- Raise awareness with more people through press and social media
- Secure media and exposure for all partners taking part including Local Authorities
Sounds great. How can my local authority get involved?
It’s completely free to take part in the campaign and Hubbub will provide everything you need to run the campaign locally including:
- Household tips for reducing summer food waste
- Infographics and visuals
- Short, inspiring videos including our new vlog
- Downloadable templates for gifting food to your neighbour
- Social media cards & content
- Polling results
- Project & communications plan
- Measurement survey
What’s the timeframe?
The campaign launches on the 17th July, to coincide with the start of the school holidays, and runs until the end of August.
So far, we’ve had a great response from Local authorities and businesses alike, who will run #TravellersCheck this Summer, including: Hampshire County Council, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Medway County Council, Ashford County Council, Spelthorne Borough County Council, Central Bedfordshire Council, Croydon Council, Hackney Council, City of London Corporation, London Borough of Newham, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough, Kent Resource Partnership, Lloyd’s of London and Veolia.
We would love you to join us this summer on our quest to cut food waste in the U.K.
