This December, WRAP has launched a new Love Food Hate Waste festive campaign, supported by Defra and DAERA, to help people save money, save time, and protect the planet during the festive season.

Every year, the UK throws away 4.4 million tonnes of edible food - enough to fill the Royal Albert Hall 88 times*. December is a month of celebration, but it’s also our most wasteful, making it a critical moment to inspire real behaviour change.

Our festive cowboy-themed “Most Wasted” series features five highly wasted foods in December, showing residents:

  • the scale of waste in the UK
  • how to store and use ingredients more effectively
  • fun ways to use up leftovers
  • why recycling food waste matters when items can’t be eaten

What campaign assets are available?

Our digital campaign toolkit includes website banners, social media assets and copy, and press release templates for your authority to use as they are or edit and localise with your logo and messaging.

Food caddy assets have also been integrated into the campaign, as the festive season provides an opportunity not only to highlight ways to prevent food waste, but also the final step in recycling all food that can’t be eaten.

Three assets have been created to highlight the benefits of using a caddy and can be used in locations where this service is already in place or when you are rolling out your food waste collections. To be applicable to as many regions as possible, the assets are available with both green and brown caddies.

Supporting local authorities

With Simpler Recycling reforms on their way in 2026, we understand the challenges that local authorities are facing, especially around introducing weekly household food waste collections.

Whether your authority already has food waste collections in place or are introducing one soon, this campaign will give you the opportunity to raise awareness of food waste and reinforce good household habits to feast well, waste less this Christmas.

Join in this December!

We’d love your support to spread the word. Please download our festive food waste assets and share across your channels to remind citizens to stay mindful of food waste during this peak in food consumption.

This festive food waste campaign is now live across our Love Food Hate Waste social media platforms and website, so please get involved, share content and join the conversation.

There are several useful tools on the Love Food Hate Waste website that can help citizens to prevent waste this Christmas. See the links below and share them on your channels this December!

Together, let’s help citizens feast smart and waste less. Tag the Love Food Hate Waste InstagramFacebook and X accounts, and use the hashtag #LoveYourLeftovers when sharing on your platforms.

From everyone at WRAP, we wish you a joyful festive season. In the new year, we will begin the ramp up to Food Waste Action Week 2026, which will take place from 9-13 March. Keep up to date with the plans here and we will be in touch with more information and opportunities soon.
