The Compost Bag Company teamed up with Mattiussi and others in our supply chain to give you a chance to speak with our colleagues who manufacture compostable, polyethylene, and woven bags and our superb range of waste containers. And for them to meet you!

It was a great show.

“The RWM show felt well attended this year with many more local authorities stopping by than in recent years,”

according to Harold Naylor, Managing Director.

“We received many interesting and varied technical enquiries, plus of course it was a great opportunity to network with some of our old friends in the industry.”

This year we were particularly keen to showcase how we are providing all the consumables needed for recycling and waste collections, not just the compostable sacks and liners we are famous for.

This includes plain and printed polythene sacks, kitchen caddies and kerbside containers, bin housings and even woven recycling bags. It seemed a great success for our visitors too - conversations about bins and collection methods would lead to talking about sacks and bags, innovative communications options and many wider issues that Local Authorities are currently exploring.

We showcased our new EasyTrolley containers and they drew a lot of attention. This is a whole new way of collecting recyclates and it seemed particularly interesting to people exploring the challenges of recycling in flats. Their discrete wheels and long handle makes them easy to trundle about, just like a holiday suitcase.

The integral Lifting Comb means they can be loaded with a binlifter as well as being emptied like our kerbside containers. The way that they stack, with apertures and colour coded lids, was also considered a space-saver in cramped commercial backroom areas. Complimenting our ordinary kerbside containers, delivered just as quickly, they seem to have a great future ahead of them.

One of the larger items on our stand, drawing interest, was the BIOX hi-tech bin enclosure by Mattiussi Ecologia. This bin enclosure has optional smart card or phone Ap access control, useful for flats recycling, or anywhere that has an aesthetics issue to manage.

The latest bio-based polymers used in our compostable liners were discussed with a number of local authorities looking for cost savings in their existing food waste collection schemes, as well as councils that were in the final stages of planning new schemes. It came as a surprise to some visitors that we have been supplying polythene food waste liners for almost ten years – to feed the pre-treatment machines in some of the anaerobic digestion facilities. Conversations about long term solutions often followed.

We had some interesting feedback from local authorities too, learning that one of the comingled food/garden waste schemes has had confirmation that their scheme can last until its contract end – future proofing their combined organics wheeled bin strategy. Operational council staff attending gave us ideas for enhancing the animal-proofing of containers they are currently using for food scraps – a commercial advantage we will keep for another day. We talked about several designs of container for an authority looking to add small businesses onto household food rounds, to gain the income.

If you did miss the RWM, or wanted another chance to chat, the good news is that we are at the LARAC conference at the Hilton next to the NEC on 11th and 12th October. We look forward to seeing you again there.
