Help improve your KAT

Many of you will be familiar with WRAP’s Kerbside Analysis Tool (KAT), a publically available model which allows users to make projections of kerbside collection infrastructure and associated standardised costs using default and user-defined values to key parameters.

Many authorities (including Newcastle-under-Lyme) have benefited from KAT to inform service change decisions in the past from comparing service design options to assessing service resource requirements. As some of you may be aware, WRAP (supported by Eunomia Research & Consulting) are currently in the process of updating KAT, including a comprehensive update of default data that sits behind the model. This data can be used where authorities are unable to provide their own individual data so that reliable service option comparisons can be drawn. Reliability of this data is a key aspect of the model and therefore WRAP are undertaking a large data collection exercise across both private and public sector organisations, part of which will be a wide spread local authority survey that will be sent out to local authority officers this week (beginning 4th April).

I would encourage you to take some time to complete a return with as much information as you can to support WRAP’s work which ultimately will be of considerable value to local authority recycling and waste services going forward.
