WRAP is calling on local authorities to help them rescue and recycle like never before with Recycle Now's brand-new campaign, Rescue Me. This year's Recycle Week is taking place from 14 - 20 October 2024 to help tackle confusion and uncertainty about recycling by inspiring those who don't currently care that much about recycling to recycle at least one item.

How will the campaign change perceptions of recycling?

Recycle Now is teaming up with local authorities, brands, retailers, waste management companies and NGOs to share the incredible journey of what happens to our recycling. Together, we'll showcase the entire process – from collection and processing to the transformation of recycled materials into new products to demonstrate that recycling really is worthwhile.

We believe that by clearing up the confusion and sharing these powerful stories, we can prove to the public that recycling truly works. It's not just about recycling more; it's about believing that every little bit makes a big difference.

Great stories need great characters

Our mission is clear: to shine a spotlight on those everyday items that aren't making it into the recycling bin.

The 'Rescue Me' campaign will transform these often-overlooked items into appealing characters, each with their own unique story. From the unassuming cardboard toilet roll tube to the reliable kitchen cleaner bottle, we're turning recyclables into heroes that you'll want to root for.

Why characters?

  • Because by giving these items personalities, we aim to forge an emotional bond with our community.
  • We want them to feel connected and responsible for the recycling journey of each item in your home.

At Recycle Now, we're on a mission to make recycling feel worthwhile for everyone, and we need your help to make it happen!

Inspiring the next generation...

During Recycle Week, we will also launch our new recycling community participation activity and we need your help to get it out there. Do you visit primary schools, Brownie or Cub groups to spread the word about recycling? If so, we want to hear from you. At Recycle Now we are in the process of developing a workshop kit to educate young people on how to rescue recyclable items from the rubbish. The activity will include interactive exercises and educational materials that can be ordered and posted out to you but will also be available to download online.

Currently, we’re looking for volunteers to trial this exciting activity and share their feedback. If you would like to register your interest, please email partnerenquiries@wrap.org.uk with your name, job title and the local authority or business you work for.

Join the movement and help us tell the story

This isn't just another campaign strategy - it's a movement. A movement to shift mindsets, spark change, and create a lasting impact. By joining forces and becoming part of this story, we can amplify our message, inspire meaningful action, and turn recycling sceptics into passionate advocates.

Together, we can make a real difference

Join us in this exciting journey launching in Recycle Week 14-20 October 2024.
