LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE IS CALLING ON LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO CHILL THE FRIDGE OUT THIS OCTOBER
In light of external events, WRAP have decided to move the date of Love Food Hate Waste’s latest campaign. Chill the Fridge Out will now launch on 16 October, which is World Food Day. We can’t wait to work with you to create real impact on this day and throughout the campaign to get the nation’s fridges below 5oC. A full set of Chill the Fridge Out assets (logos, GIFs, images etc) will be available early next week (starting 8 October) on our WRAP Resource Library.
Love Food Hate Waste is calling on local authorities across the UK to support its latest campaign, Chill the Fridge Out, in a bid to set the nation’s fridges below 5 degrees. Launching now on 16 October not 10 October, the two-week campaign will show 18-34-year-old students, professionals and young families how to keep food fresher for longer in a fridge set at the right temperature.
Milk is the third most wasted food and drink product in the UK. In a fridge below 5 degrees, milk and other food items will last three days longer. Currently a whopping three million glasses get poured down the drain every day, mainly because it has not been used in time i.e. ‘gone off’.
But does the nation know what temperature their fridge should be? The average UK fridge is operating at 7 degrees. This exceeds Food Standards Agency recommendation of 1- 5 degrees, which ensures food is kept both fresh and safe. To add to the knowledge gap, checking and changing fridge temperature can be a baffling experience, with controls varying hugely between brands and models.
To solve this problem Love Food Hate Waste are launching a brand new free and simple to use tool as part of its latest campaign. ChillTheFridgeOut.com will guide users in how to achieve optimum chill and make the most of their fridge at home.
Food waste is a big problem. Not only is it a waste of money (a family of four throws away £70 worth of food every month!) but it is also terrible news for the environment. If households across the UK curbed the amount of food ending up in our kitchen bins, it would reduce emissions of harmful gases that are contributing to climate change.
Ask your citizens to Chill the Fridge Out this October
That’s why Love Food Hate Waste wants you to join big brands across the electrical and retail sectors to Chill The Fridge Out during 10 – 28 October. Key players have already signed up to support the campaign in their own way- from running activities in-store, hosting online prize giveaways or simply sharing campaign content on social media.
What can I do in my local authority?
