Food Waste Action Week 2022 – plans are taking shape

Planning is in progress for Food Waste Action Week next year 7-13 March 2022.

The campaign will build on the success of the first Food Waste Action Week in March 2021, keeping the same theme ‘Wasting Food Feeds Climate Change’. Whilst the first Week was all about highlighting the problem of climate change and the impact that wasting food has on this, next year’s campaign will focus on the impacts of our actions and why we should care about this. The campaign will aim to motivate citizens to change their behaviours with emotive creatives and hard-hitting stats. Key behaviours for the Week will target encouraging positive behaviours around freezing, defrosting, storage and fridge temperatures in order to reduce our food waste in the home.

We have just consumer tested our campaign creatives and are now in the process of developing these so that all our local authority partners can access them and use them on their social media channels. We also plan, like last year, to have a well-known public figure to front the campaign, a range of influencers to help amplify our messages, a PR stunt and national and regional PR; all with the aim of heightening the profile of the campaign and influencing positive behaviour change amongst citizens.

We will share more detailed information once the planning stages are complete and will keep you notified via a webinar sometime in the New Year and our regular local authority ezines. Please reserve the 7 to 13 March 2022 in your social and communications calendars as we need your help in amplifying our messages!

If you would like to be kept up to date on developments for the week, please sign up to our Local Authority email.

In the meantime, please feel free to make use of our Love Food Hate Waste ‘Always On’ Social media assets available for you to download from our website. These are updated in advance, based on a theme or food related behaviour each month.
