I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Easter break and also the sunnier weather that is starting to creep through…

This is the time of year that members of the LARAC Exec meet up in person for our Away Day to discuss the ongoing development of the LARAC Business Plan and other actions that we want to focus on and take forwards over the coming year. As always, we will be discussing the best way to continue to support members and lobby on their behalf.

It's still good to get together in a room with others to discuss things properly, and even though we are ‘back to normal’ in a post lock down world, I think most of us have continued to work from home more than we used to, so I for one still miss the reduced opportunity to work face to face with people.

After the Away Day, I’ll be chairing the next in the series of LARAC Webinars. This one will be about waste minimisation, and we have some excellent speakers lined up to discuss policy, community engagement and present on interesting case studies. If you’d like to join the webinar you can register HERE.

A couple of weeks after this, I’ll be heading up to Glasgow for the LARAC Scotland Conference, to discuss waste management issues pertinent to our colleagues North of the border. Last year there was much discussion about the upcoming DRS, which was subsequently delayed soon afterwards. This year, topics that will be covered include the Circular Economy Bill, EPR, the Recycling Improvement Fund, Digital Waste Tracking plus much more. If you would like to attend the event and have not yet secured your ticket you can register HERE

I have also recently been spending some of my time judging the applications for the Awards for Excellence. Once again this year, the calibre of entries was very high and there was plenty of discussion between the judges on who should come out on top. I’d like to thank everyone who entered the awards, and as always, I am humbled by the amazing work that is going on out there in the world of waste and circular economy, and all of the amazing initiatives taking place.

The ceremony is in May, so good luck to everyone who entered!

Aside from that, I will be continuing in all of my day to day work, awaiting the next key consultation due from Government around the Emissions Trading Scheme. This issue will be a significant discussion and lobbying area over the next few years, so I await with baited breath to see how this develops.
