The Landfills Dispoasal Tax for Wales Bill was introduced to the National Assembly on 28th November - Royal assent is anticipated in the summer of 2017. 

From April 2018, landfill disposals tax will replace landfill tax in Wales. Like landfill tax, landfill disposals tax will be a tax on the disposal of material as waste to landfill and will be charged by weight. The National Procurement Services for Wales has published details of companies selected for inclusion on a ‘waste disposal bags framework’ for use by Welsh public sector organisations.

Available from late August 2016, the bags framework has six categories ranging from the supply of recycling bags through to the supply of compostable liners for food waste caddies.

These figures, released from Statistics for Wales, on 24th August show that the story of steadily increasing rates from 2011 continues, and for the first time, Wales has exceeded it's target for the time period. The aim was 58% and the provisional result is 60%. 

The figures show Wales well on its way to achieving its statutory targets of recycling 70% of waste by 2024-25.  The actual final quarter showed increased rates on last year's equivalent quarter of 6% .
