Passionate about reducing our impact on the environment and helping others do the same? An exciting new excellent opportunity has arisen in our newly formed team for a permanent Waste Prevention Officer role at Buckinghamshire Council.

You'll use your experience of waste prevention and projects promoting positive behaviour change to support the waste prevention programme in Buckinghamshire. You will work in partnership with suppliers, community groups, national campaigns, and other teams within Buckinghamshire Council to deliver existing campaigns to homes across Buckinghamshire and help develop new waste prevention projects.

About us

The role sits within the Strategic Waste Management and Enforcement service. The team works collaboratively to undertake procurement of new service contracts, lead and deliver waste capital schemes, policy strategy reviews, behaviour change campaigns, manage a number of multi-million-pound waste contracts (energy from waste, household recycling centres) as well as deliver new waste infrastructure projects.

Within the team, we cover enforcement of fly-tipping, unlawful encampments and traveller communities. Collectively the team cover a wide range of work from enforcement to contract management, procurements, communications, behaviour change projects and front-facing customer service. Working within the wider team means there are plenty of opportunities for learning and development in both a formal and informal capacity.

About the role

In this role, you’ll be part of the Waste Prevention Team, deliver a range of waste prevention and recycling initiatives, contribute to and deliver communication activities, and analyse performance data in order to deliver a waste prevention programme. You will need to be able to prioritise and target specific areas and measure the effectiveness of initiatives delivered.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and organised Waste Prevention Officer to join our busy team. You will help instigate positive waste prevention behaviour change with our customers through a variety of communications, promotions, public engagement events and activities. The role is expected to work closely with community groups, charities, suppliers and other local stakeholders to help develop community-led waste prevention initiatives/projects.  You will also work closely with the Waste Prevention Team Leader developing innovative new ideas and initiatives, bid for funding opportunities to increase waste prevention in homes across Buckinghamshire.

Another key part of the role will be to provide day-to-day support to apprentices as they learn about waste management in a local authority environment.
