Two year fixed term contract until 31 March 2020 / Secondment opportunity.
Hackney Council is looking for someone to work on an exciting initiative. This role supports a series of trials designed to make our housing estates cleaner and greener. This is an important part our work to make Hackney a place for everyone.
As Estates Recycling Project Support Officer, you will have a brilliant opportunity to get management experience on a cutting-edge programme. Our recycling service has a reputation for innovation, and the approaches we are now trialling are unique to Hackney. Having won many awards over the years, we must continually strive to find new ways to push recycling rates higher and improve our service.
Day to day you will spend most of your time in the office and some of your time out of the office visiting estates across the borough. You will liaise with tenants, contractors and managers to roll out and monitor the programme. You should be able to engage a variety of people and build good working relationships with our diverse communities. Your role will involve planning work programmes and you will need project management experience in a waste, construction or similar context.
This job would suit a current Officer working in another Local Authority or a Project Assistant looking for career progression. With responsibility for one member of staff, you will gain line management experience as well as a spectrum of other skills. To thrive in this role, you will need a flexible approach and be willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.
We need someone educated to degree level, with a background in recycling, estate management or asset management. You should have experience managing medium sized projects and be able to use a variety of IT packages. Ideally you will have worked in a local authority, with an understanding of contract management, procurement and finance procedures. A driving licence would be useful.
Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.
