National lockdowns latest

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a new national lockdown for England (Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have individual lockdown measures - click on the links for the latest info). The English restrictions will come into force from tomorrow (Wednesday 6 January 2021), although the Prime Minister has asked that these measures are followed by the population from today.

Defra has included some helpful links and pertinent information below:

New Guidance
The National lockdown: Stay at Home guidance is available here

This confirms that the majority of public services will continue and you will be able to leave home to visit them, including waste or recycling centres.

Critical Workers
The guidance for critical workers and vulnerable children who can access schools or educational settings is available here:  Critical Workers Guidance

This page (updated on 31 December 2020 at the time of writing) lists waste disposal sectors under the “Utilities, communication and financial services” heading. Defra does not expect that this will change with regard to the listing of waste disposal sectors as this page is updated to reflect yesterday’s announcement, but they will keep us updated should there be any change to any of the guidance relevant for the waste sector.

We circulated this information to members this morning (Tuesday 5th December) will continue to circulate any relevant guidance and information as and when it becomes available.
