LARAC response to EAC Inquiry into WEEE and the Circular Economy

In June the Environmental Audit Committee launched an inquiry into WEEE and the circular economy. Advice and information was sought on the type of support the government should provide to encourage a move towards a circular economy and how local markets and recycling awareness could be improved. LARAC emphasised there should be a shift away from the current practice of prioritising collection. In accordance with the waste hierarchy it was commented that producers should be incentivised to design for repair to encourage products to stay in circulation for longer and products also need to be designed for disassembly to allow for more efficient recycling practices.
