Shropshire based wheeled bin manufacturer, Craemer UK, are members of the local Environmental group, BESST (Business Environmental Support Scheme for Telford) and were recently nominated alongside many other credible organisations for a BESST Sustainable Business Award.
These awards are designed to showcase projects that BESST members have been working on within their businesses. This can range from a variety of projects, such as improving waste management systems within an industry, helping to improve/enhance local communities, expanding the biodiversity situated onsite, enhancing staff wellbeing, reducing overall carbon emissions, or anything else which contributes to the wellbeing of the environment.
Craemer were declared the winners of the ‘Natural Capital Enhancement’ category, an award which is close to the companies heart. Based at their primary production facility in Telford, and measuring approximately 6,000 square meters including a pond and a discovery path, the aptly named “Eco Walk” preserves an area of land to contribute to protecting the environment.
The Eco Walk Project has now been running for over three years and was born in conjunction with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, a charity dedicated to the conservation of local wildlife species and habitats. This appeal immediately fell on fertile soil with Craemer’s two environmental officers Phil Evans (UK Operations Manager) and Amber Poppitt (Management Systems Administrator). Phil commented; “We are proud to be recognised for the efforts which we have put into creating and developing every aspect of this project. It’s great to be able to give something back to not only the environment but the wellbeing of staff. It’s something we regard highly and will continue to develop and progress”.
Amber added; “We’re all very happy with the win. I’m hugely grateful for all the staff who worked to bring the Eco Walk to life. Apart from enhancing the biodiversity of the site, we wanted to create a green oasis for employees to enjoy and engage with nature during rest periods. Winning this award was made possible thanks to the dedication and efforts made by many of our staff over the past several years”.
